Health and safety: visits
Launched in November 2009, we have been offering a London Health & Safety Vetting Service for work experience placements for students, young people and trainees.
We now have a database of over 5,000 vetted and in-date London placement opportunities. We can also check the status of over 60,000 placements across the capital - if we do not have the records on our system, we can check the pan-London central database system.
All H&S visiting staff are employed directly by us. Our NEBOSH qualified senior officer delivers IOSH training to all staff and visiting officers have to demonstrate a level of competency before being allowed to vet potential placements.
Any organisation or school organising internships, work experience or apprenticeships for students or trainees can access the service.
How does the process work?
It’s very simple. If you haven’t used the service before, call 0845 273 2226 or email visits@londonebp.net and request details.
We will ask you to sign and return a service level agreement.
We will then supply you with a simple one-page form to be used when requesting a check on an employer. The form simply allows us to gather all the relevant information about the placement and employer and ensures a quick response. We will check our database and notify you if the placement is either already on our system or will require a visit. Once you agree to the database check or visit, the request is then processed. Following the database check or visit a Job Description and Risk Assessment is produced and sent back to you.
How long does it take?
The service is busiest between April and July. Job Descriptions and Risk Assessments for placements on our database are generally sent to you within 2 to 5 days and visits are generally completed within six weeks.
In the quieter periods of the year (September to March), Job Descriptions and Risk Assessments for placements on our database are generally sent to you within 48 hours and visits completed within three weeks.
However we aim to fulfi l any request sent through, so if you have a last minute request contact us and we will do our best to get it completed for you.
